What happened to the old one:

Basically I have come to the conclusion that the axle seal popped out of place and was causing enough friction on the retainer plate to burn the gear oil and heated the retainer plate up enough for it to basically just break. You can see the thin lip that peeled back like a can opener which let the axle shaft roll out from underneath me while I was going 55mph. Still haven't found that wheel...
