I have a 2007 JK Sahara, and recently my GASCAP indicator came on. Since I have never baught a new gascap for it, I thought it was time. Well it's still on, and giving me a service code of a general emission issue. A smoke test to find it costs $125.00, and I cannot afford that right now.

Can anyone help me in trying to find this leak or issue?

Thanks!

I would take it to one of several places (Midas Muffler, Pep Boys, etc) who will plug it in and give you a definite answer to your problem. Many times it takes ~ 50 miles to clear a faulty gas cap code.

Disconnect the battery for 10 min and let the computer re-set itself, I have had to do that to clear codes in the past. If it comes back on then you know the new cap didnt do the trick.

Check the evap can under the Jeep. Mine was showing the GASCAP error and it was because there was a crack in the evap can from wheeling. It allows an open source of air into the fuel system causing the error as if the cap were off.
