Depends on your budget and your mechanical ability.
Switching any motor into a 4banger is going to require a new trans and possibly transfer case.
Upside... You have 4:10 gears in your axles so that is a plus. The Dana 35 rear is kinda' weak for a V8 conversion but a Ford 8.8 is the perfect fix for that.

Personally I would go V8 for a swap, if you are going to do all that work might as well get the best you can the first time.
Also the economy on 4.0 isn't good 14ish mpg so some V8s will actually get better gas mileage... If you care, to stay 50 state legal the motor needs to be out of a newer vehicle, and it needs to be offered in a Jeep product line vehicle.. Which would mean Hemi.. Lol

5.2 would probably be pretty easy and there is quite a few that have done it. I did a 5.9 swap which is almost the same as the 5.2.

Checvy would also probably be pretty easy but I know nothing about it.
