Which power plant do you have? Not familiar with older years, fuel injected or Carb?

I put a hotter coil in my 97 Wrangler and then one day when driving it at 60mph it would stall, completely cut out, and then jump back to life. It didn't like that hotter coil. The weirdest thing was that I was having bad issues on the highway, then I drove it 3 hours straight home without a problem. It was really weird. Then daily driving it, it would act up once in a while.

Maybe it's a bad ignition coil?

It's hard to pin down stuff like that because of all the weird random things it could be.

So only into second? But if your stationary it will idle? If you coast in 1st and just hold the clutch in will it die?

Does your speedo work?
